Werner Heyde im November 1959, als er sich den Behörden stellte. (Werner Heyde in November 1959, turning himself in to the authorities)
During the Third Reich Heyde was substantially involved in the Nazis’ euthanasia program. After the war he lived under the name Dr. Sawade unnoticed in Flensburg, where he worked as neurologist and consultant at court. His true identity was only revealed by chance, and after a brief attempt to flee, he turned himself in voluntarily on 12th November 1959. In 1964, days before he was put trial for his war crimes he committed suicide.
