Based on a photograph of a woodcut from a book about French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The woodcut is based on a painting by Julien Bastien-Lepage.
This offset print does not exist as a single sheet, but is the cover for a catalogue accompanying the exhibition Gerhard Richter. Graphik 1965-1970 at Museum Folkwang, Essen. It is the first comprehensive list of Richter's editions.
550 copies, an unknown number of which are signed and dated in graphite pencil in bottom centre.
