Cardboard portfolio with dark blue cloth cover containing eight black and grey offset prints on white cardboard coated with clear glossy varnish, one cover sheet with the artist's name, title and publisher, one extra sheet with more information about the edition.
In 1978 Richter photographed the surface of oil painting Halifax [CR: 432-5]. The photographs were taken from different angles, different distances and different lighting. The photographs were then arranged in a large grid, consisting of eight individually framed panels, each containing 16 photographs mounted on cardboard [CR: 441). In 1998 offset prints were made from the panels.
The motifs of the 128 photographs were also used in two artist's books [Edition: 56 and 100] and one photo edition [Edition: 101].
60 portfolios, signed, dated, and numbered in graphite pencil on an extra sheet containing information about the edition, all individual sheets also numbered on reverse with the number of the portfolio and the number of each individual sheet.
