The Firenze edition from 2000 comprises 118 works, all of which are oil paint on colour photographs, framed, behind glass. The series [Edition: 110] is based on three photographs taken by Richter in 1999 on the banks of the River Arno in Florence.

Firenze was created as a special edition for the book Gerhard Richter: City Life (not an artist’s book), which contains a CD with music by Steve Reich. Both the edition (2000) and the book (published by Prato in 2002) were made to support the Contempoartensemble orchestra of Florence.

The Firenze edition should not be confused with the publication of a similar name Florence / Firenze by Dietmar Elger (published by Hatje Cantz in 2001), which included a selection of overpainted photographs by Richter from 1999-2001.
