The publication Gerhard Richter. Portraits focuses for the first time solely on the place of the portrait in Richter’s extensive body of work.

Stretching over all media and genres, this is collection includes his most famous portraits such as his daughter Betty and his first wife Ema as well as family mementos and pieces newly discovered during research for this project.

While Hubertus Butin’s essay concentrates exclusively on Richter’s portrait photography of the 1960s, Stefan Gronert analyses the development of the portrait throughout the artist’s career.
