War Cut II is a special edition (70 copies) of the artist's book War Cut (both published by Walther König in 2004).
Both editions contain 340 pages and 216 illustrations showing details from Abstract Painting [CR: 648-2], 1987, accompanied by 155 texts taken from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung of March 20 and 21, 2003 (the beginning of the Iraq War). The editions also contain an index of the printed texts and some short, untitled remarks by Gerhard Richter. The editions have flexible cardboard covers with red linen covering, and yellow, red, blue, and black offset print.
For the War Cut II special edition, each of the 70 copies has a unique cover painted by Richter.

50 copies in light grey cardboard slipcase (designed by Richter), signed, dated and numbered in Roman numerals in graphite pencil on the endpaper, also numbered in Roman numerals in felt-tip pen on the penultimate page; oil paint on book cover applied with squeegee by Richter.
20 copies in light grey cardboard slipcase (designed by Richter), signed, dated numbered in Roman numerals and marked h.c. (not for sale) in graphite pencil on the endpaper; some of these also signed, dated, and numbered in Roman numerals in ballpoint or felt-tip pen on the penultimate page, oil paint applied to book cover with squeegee.
