Gerhard Richter. Beirut was published on the occasion of Richter’s first exhibition in Lebanon, at the Beirut Art Center in 2012. Both the exhibition and catalogue focus on Richter’s overpainted photographs, which he has created since the mid-1980s. Rarely seen in print, the overpainted photographs bring together the artist’s long-standing fascination with the nature of photography and the language of abstract painting. The imagery ranges from domestic and family photos to holiday snaps, landscapes, mountain ranges and studio shots. The series Museum Visit, created in 2011, features prominently, with 234 overpainted photographs taken during a typical busy day at Tate Modern, London.

The accompanying essay by Achim Borchardt-Hume considers this particular body of work and its place within Richter’s wider oeuvre, asserting that 'the photographs allow an insight into the private world of Richter, albeit an insight that is always seen – quite literally – through the veil of paint and painting”.

The bilingual English / Arabic catalogue includes a foreword by the BAC directors Lamia Joreige and Sandra Dagher. It was conceived by the artist himself and published in partnership with Beirut Art Center, Heni Publishing in London, and Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König in Cologne.

Gerhard Richter. Images of an Era was published on the occasion of the exhibition at Bucerius Kunstforum in Hamburg in 2011. Both the exhibition and the catalogue focus on Richter’s paintings of the 1960s that are based on photographical source images. The paintings and photographs, which were predominantly taken from magazines and advertisements of the era, are confronted with each other; Richter’s selective process is illuminated and categorised here.

Letters, which Richter wrote to his artist friends Helmut Heinze and Wieland Förster, can also be read for the first time in this publication, along with photographs of Richter’s studio at the time, and give a strong impression of his work in this period.

The cycle October 18, 1977 completes the works from the 1960s since its creative process refers to the earlier works. A comprehensive examination of the source material that lead to these paintings of members of the terrorist group Red Army Faction has also been carried out.

Contributions by Ortrud Westheider, Uwe M. Schneede, Dietmar Elger, Hubertus Butin and Dietmar Rübel.

The catalogue of the exhibition Gerhard Richter. Abstract Paintings 2009 at the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York concentrates on Richter’s works from 2008 and 2009. Besides his abstract paintings in oil on canvas, works in oil on wood and on aludibond are also taken into account, as is the series of reverse glass paintings Sinbad.

An essay by Benjamin H. D. Buchloh focuses on some large scale abstract paintings from 2009, which are executed in light tones and appear to be almost monochrome.

The catalogue of the exhibition Gerhard Richter. Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery, London in 2009 focuses on Richter's portraiture.

Author and curator Paul Moorhouse presents a systematic examination of Richter's work within this genre. The portraits, exclusively painted after photographic source images, are categorised according to their origin. The chapter "Devotional Pictures" compiles images that can be traced back to family photo albums, whereas the source images in the chapter "Continual Uncertainty" mostly derive from newspapers or magazines and reflect the zeitgeist.  However, the greatest share is formed by portraits of people from Richter's intimate circle: artists, friends and family members.

With over a hundred full-colour illustrations, Gerhard Richter. Portraits. Painting Appearances makes an important contribution to our understanding of the artist's work within this genre.

The book Gerhard Richter. Aquarelle und Zeichnungen was published on the occasion of the exhibition Gerhard Richter. Retrospektive at the Albertina in Vienna in 2009.
Unlike in the artist’s previous retrospectives, Gerhard Richter’s graphics are given a prominent place. The exhibited works on paper span a period of 40 years, from 1966 to 2006. This overview shows how Richter’s drawings and watercolours initially focused on the abstract, and also show to what extent they interact with his paintings.

The book includes a foreword by Klaus Albrecht Schröder and an essay by Barbara Steffen.

This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition Richter en France at the Musée de Grenoble in 2009.
Both the exhibition and catalogue are dedicated to works by Gerhard Richter that belong to public collections and museums in France. The artworks offer an insight into Richter’s different creative periods. Despite an emphasis on abstract paintings of the 1980s, paintings after photographs, grey monochrome pictures and drawings are also taken into account.

The text contributions provide an overview of Richter's œuvre and address grey paintings and glass works, as well as drawings separately.

Text contributions by Guy Tosatto, Jean-Pierre Criqui and Jonas Storsve.
