A New Necessity. First Tyne International was published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition in Newcastle upon Tyne. At 3 yearly intervals, Tyne International organizes exhibitions concentrating on contemporary topics with a local context and encourages a critical debate about visual art in northeast England. The first exhibition held by Tyne International was dedicated to the social significance of art. Therefore Curator Declan McGonagle chose artists who have already addressed the topic of art in social space.

 

With contributions by Declan McGonagle, Annelie Pohlen, Jon Bird, Simon Herbert and Thomas McEvilley amongst others.
